UP2:
Infinite Coastline
The result of an intensely beautiful weekend visit by James Webb and Derek
Gripper. While Derek read Nietzsche, I think, and lectured wonderfully
in the evenings, James and I transported ourselves in electrical explorations
- just listening to what was happening while we were allowing sounds to
form and join, without too much talking.
The mutual openness to creating music - basically not caring for anything
musicians all too often get very precious about: style, harmony, melody,
rhythm, forms, clichées etc. - was very intense, like entering a
minefield of personal preoccupations, as well as reviving: a private mind,
innocent to judgement.
The
lovely cover by nurse!designs features a signal path diagram
for those listeners interested in how all the layers of sound
were actually played live.
